The don’t come bet is essentially the opposite of a come bet, and means the player is wagering on the fact that a 7 will come before a point throw. Conversely, on the come out throw a 7 or 11 means the player loses, whereas a 2, 3, or a 12 automatically wins. Most serious craps players don’t like making these types of bets (even though the house odds are pretty much the same for these bets as they are for the pass line and come bets.) As a matter of fact, serious craps players often think making these types of bets is poor taste and the mark of an amateur.
- There are other types of craps bets, known as proposition bets, that are usually found in the center of a craps table. These bets generally have a much higher house advantage, but with the potential for players to increase their earnings dramatically if they win one of these bets. There are various proposition bets a player can make depending on the casino you’re in.
- A few common proposition bets include the one roll bet, which wagers that the player will roll an 11, 3, 2, or 12. A hardway proposition bet means the player is betting on the fact that the shooter will make a hardway number such as 4-4 (before throwing a 7 or an 8 the easier way;)
- the hard 4 (2-2), or hard 10 (5-5.) This proposition also wagers that the shooter can roll a hard 6 (3-3) or a hard 8 (4-4). The odds are stacked against the players with this type of bet, but if you win you can expect a dramatic increase in your earnings.
- There are several more proposition bets, but those are by far the most common when considering the various amount of bets a player can make. Players can also make place, buy and lay bets. With this type of bet, players can “Buy” individual numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10), place their bets in the come area and hope that the number is rolled before a 7. The lay bet is the opposite, where players wager that the shooter will roll a 7 before the number that is “laid” is rolled.
